Sugar Cravings and Your Gut

Have you ever wondered why you suddenly crave sugar? It turns out, the neurons in your gut send messages to your brain through something called the gut-brain axis. You might have heard about this before, and we can dive deeper into it in the next Blog post.

When you're craving sugar, it's because the neurons in your gut are signaling your brain that it needs more sugar. This is why sometimes you just need that chocolate or pastry right NOW! The bad bacteria in your gut feed on these sugars and want to multiply. The more they get, the more your body craves sugar.

To help your gut (and yourself), you need to eat fiber-rich foods to support the good bacteria in your gut. Add fermented foods like sauerkraut, kefir, and plain yogurt to your daily meals, and choose foods that don't cause inflammation in the gut. A little turmeric can go a long way!

This shows that sugar cravings aren't just about willpower. There are other reasons you might crave sugar, like low serotonin levels, ghrelin (the hunger hormone), lack of sleep, nutrient deficiencies, emotional eating, and just plain old unhealthy habits.

Remember, this isn't medical advice. Always talk to a healthcare practitioner and consider looking into different probiotic brands.

*Tip: Look for a brand that includes strains of Lactobacillus bacteria.

PS: You are worthy of being HAPPY and HEALTHY!

Hugs,

Anntonette
